Well, today is Thursday, a pretty uneventful day for me usually. But this morning I felt different, I felt like there was a change in me... like I could take on the whole world. Yes, that is pretty cliche of me to say, but it's completely true! Someone rocked my world last night. I am a youth leader at River Valley Church in Faribault. We have a 2 part series that started last night, on Worship. What true Worship is, and how we all just go through the motions. We sing the words because we know them, and we raise our hands because we feel like we should. After the sermon, we sang 2 worship songs... when that first song started, and it hit the chorus "Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, here I am to say that You're my God", I looked up and saw boys, girls, Junior High and Senior High students with hands raised and passionate about praising our God. It was such an encouragement and inspiration! We so often get distracted, or we get nervous about what other people are going to think if you are truly worshipping! Life is too short to worry about what other people think. This is something that I have learned SO much the past year. I think the best song that I can think of right now to sum up what I'm feeling is "The Motions" by Matthew West.
"I don't wanna go through the motions.
I don't wanna go one more day.
Without your all-consuming passion inside of me.
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking "What if I had given everything?"
Instead of going through the motions. "
We are living for so much more, Someone so much more, than ourselves... we are living for the Creator of the Universe! We should never WANT to just go through the motions. We should WANT to set ourselves apart and make it evident that we live for Jesus Christ. He is NOT something to be ashamed of.
Ecclesiastes 1:14- "I have seen all the things that are done under the sun: all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind."

I often wonder if people really know what they are doing isnt worshiping God but there traditions in their particular church. Ive visited many churches and i have found very few these days that actually feel real. I liked what you said above about singing the words because they know them. I find (especially in the Church of Christ) this is exactly the case, the sing songs that arent even worshiping God, and they sing them because they have sung them for years and know them. They also dont wish to try any new ways of worshiping because, in my opinion, they are afraid to grow in their faith. They pass it off as "If your heart is in the right place then it doesnt matter how you worship" but when their hearts ARENT in the right place then the problem continues... I applaud those who change and grow in their worship and those who can express themselves fully during worship as well...
